The key distinction

A long-term solution, not a temporary fix

Soft linings exist both as short-term interim solutions and as permanent restorations. Prothesoft® FORTE clearly belongs to the second category.

Temporary soft lining
  • PurposeInterim solution, e.g. for tissue conditioning
  • ProcessingMostly chairside, cold-curing
  • Service lifeShort-term, must be renewed regularly
  • Material behaviourLoses elasticity over time
Prothesoft® FORTE
  • PurposeProfessional long-term restoration of the complete denture
  • ProcessingIn the dental laboratory, heat-cured using the flask technique
  • Service lifeGuaranteed durability of 3 years
  • Material behaviourPermanently soft, firmly bonded to the denture base

Insured in Germany? With German statutory health insurance (GKV), reimbursement is generally possible every three years – in line with the durability of Prothesoft® FORTE.

Section 01

For patients

Clearly explained: what Prothesoft® FORTE is and how you can get it.

Patient with denture discomfort during a consultation
Sounds familiar?

Your denture rubs, wobbles or no longer fits properly?

Over the years the jawbone recedes – a completely natural process, much more pronounced in the lower jaw than in the upper jaw. A denture that once fitted well no longer sits properly. Many people know the consequences:

  • Pressure points and sore spots on the gums
  • The denture moves when eating or speaking
  • Denture adhesive becomes a daily stopgap
  • Certain foods are avoided
The solution

A soft cushion for your denture

Prothesoft® FORTE is a soft, elastic material that is permanently applied to the inside of your denture in the dental laboratory. In the mouth it absorbs a little saliva, becomes supple and adapts snugly to your jaw.

  • Comfortable to wear – the soft layer cushions pressure peaks
  • Better fit – the material fills small gaps between denture and jaw
  • Keep your familiar denture – no new denture needed
  • Long-term solution – not a temporary fix, guaranteed durability of 3 years
  • More affordable than a new denture
  • No surgery – no operation, no implants
Complete denture for upper and lower jaw
Prothesoft® is processed slightly translucent in the shade of the denture and cannot be seen from the outside.
How it works

Four steps to a soft lining

Ask your dentist

Ask your dentist about Prothesoft® FORTE. They will check whether it is suitable for you.

Impression

At the practice, an impression is taken using your existing denture.

Dental laboratory

The laboratory applies the soft layer. In most cases you are without your denture for only a short time.

Fitting

Your denture is fitted again – with a noticeably softer inner surface.

Frequently asked questions

What patients want to know

Is this only a temporary solution?

No. Prothesoft® FORTE is a professional long-term restoration, not a temporary fix. The material is permanently bonded to your denture in the dental laboratory, stays soft and has a guaranteed durability of 3 years.

Is Prothesoft® FORTE safe?

Prothesoft® FORTE is a Class I medical device under the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), carries the CE mark and has been in use for more than 20 years. The material is processed exclusively in the dental laboratory.

Is Prothesoft® suitable for every denture?

Prothesoft® FORTE has been developed for complete dentures. Your dentist will assess whether it is suitable in your case.

Will I notice the soft layer?

Most wearers find the soft inner surface comfortable. It matches the shade of the denture and is not visible from the outside.

What does the lining cost?

The cost depends on the treatment at the practice and the work in the dental laboratory. A lining is generally considerably cheaper than a new denture. Patients with German statutory health insurance can generally have it reimbursed every three years. Ask your practice for a cost estimate.

How do I care for the denture afterwards?

Clean your denture as usual. Care instructions can be found in the patient information (German · English).

My practice does not know Prothesoft® yet – what can I do?

Write to us using the contact form. We will be happy to inform your practice or laboratory about the material.

Problem & solution

When jaw anatomy sets the limit

With complete dentures, natural bone resorption frequently leads to fitting problems. Atrophy occurs six to seven times more often in the lower jaw than in the upper jaw. Conventional hard relines compensate for this only to a limited extent and can cause pressure points.

Prothesoft® FORTE forms an elastic intermediate layer that absorbs stress peaks and adapts dynamically to the jaw – a non-surgical, cost-effective solution between relining and a new denture.

Not a temporary fix: Prothesoft® FORTE is a heat-cured long-term restoration with a guaranteed durability of 3 years. With German statutory health insurance (GKV), reimbursement is generally possible every three years.

Mode of action

Retention through physics – not adhesive

Prothesoft® FORTE is based on methyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. Three effects reinforce each other.

Schematic illustration (not to scale)
1

Adhesion and cohesion

A retention mechanism forms between the saliva-saturated denture base and the mucosa – comparable to two moistened glass plates that slide sideways but can hardly be pulled apart vertically.

2

Swelling and clamping effect

Thanks to its microporosity, the material absorbs saliva and swells by up to 13 % in volume. Gaps and voids are filled; in undercut areas a clamping effect with a valve-like seal is created.

3

Pumping effect and self-cleaning

Under chewing pressure, saliva is continuously absorbed and released. The inner surface of the denture is constantly rinsed.
